David Krissman is a writer, director, producer, and editor in Los Angeles.
His filmmaking credits include The Confession, The New Brit, and Moonlight Phantom. The Confession premiered at The Newport Beach Film Festival and was also featured on PBS’s Shorts Showcase. Krissman’s thesis film The New Brit had the honor of representing Loyola Marymount University at the Poiters Film Festival in Morocco, a showcase of the best cinema made at film schools around the world.
Krissman has also worked as a creative producer, editor, and visual effects artist for high profile clients such as Bethesda Softworks, Nolan Bushnell’s X2 Games, and the USC Institute of Creative Technologies.
Krissman’s writing and filmmaking has been recognized with multiple awards and honors. Most recently his TV Pilot script Oak Ridge won Best TV Drama at the Oaxaca Film Festival, one of Latin America’s most prominent film festivals. Oak Ridge tells the untold story of the Manhattan Project, and follows an ensemble of characters that fate intertwined behind the USA’s heroic effort to build an atomic bomb during WWII.
Notably, Krissman’s feature script Black Site 5 placed in the Top 50 (0.5%) of the Academy Nicholl Fellowship. “An incredibly well written, contained, powerful, painful and intense drama about a Pakistani wannabe journalist who is detained and tortured in a US secret government program,” one Academy judge wrote. “S/he takes on a hot topic, torture, but still manages to craft a thrilling and entertaining story. There are many opportunities when this writer could have gone to hokey town, but didn’t. Mark Boal didn’t write this well in Zero Dark Thirty— in my opinion.”
The filmmaker is currently writing Emmy’s Chain, a narrative feature exposé inspired by real events. It’s the story of how a savvy and determined businessman struggles to find his dying daughter a new kidney, and in doing so saves the lives of numerous others, transforming the field of transplantation.
Krissman holds a B.A. in International Studies from the University of Washington and a Masters in Film Production from Loyola Marymount University. Prior to graduate school Krissman worked at Baker Newspaper Group where he became the youngest managing editor in the publishing company’s 29-year history.
